The sudden and tragic passing of James Brian Hellwig — otherwise known by his wrestling stage name “The Ultimate Warrior” — was a surprise to everybody in the WWE Universe.
At just 54 years old, nobody could’ve seen this coming as he was with the company that brought him to prominence all weekend long, appearing at Wrestlemania 30 in New Orleans and Raw on Monday, just days after being inducted into the pro wrestling Hall of Fame.
As more details of his death emerge, we take a closer look into the life of one of the most legendary icons in pro wrestling history. The Ultimate Warrior was one of the best to do it and it’s important we remember that.
In the Continental Wrestling Association in Memphis, Warrior started out his wrestling career under the nickname “Justice” and would be paired with his partner and future star Steve Borde, aka Sting. The two eventually became known as the “Blade Runners” until they bolted for the WCCW.
